Learn more about our dance classes
The experienced instructors here at Ms. Patricia's School of Dance and Gymnastics teach a range of classes, including ballet, tap, jazz, pre-pointe and pointe with various levels of progression. The levels are as follows:
Beginner - Usually ranges from 2 1/2 to 12 years of age. Includes basic barre skills such as plie, tendu and passe. Students will learn important elements of coordination and graceful movement. Beginner tap classes include basic tap steps, learning the different sounds you can make.
Primary - Ballet, tap and separate jazz classes are available for primary students. They will learn correct posture, body control, remembering a sequence of dance steps, and new techniques.
Intermediate and advanced - Students tend to take class more seriously at this level. Students will learn arm movements, fluidity, and working together as a class.
Pointe - Participation in a pointe class is approved after a consultation between the teachers and parents, and are available to students at the intermediate level. Students who are physically ready for the challenge will learn to strengthen their muscles, proper positions, and how to care for their shoes and feet. This class requires a lot of practice and dedication.
Learn more about our gymnastics classes
When your child takes our gymnastics classes, they will work with different pieces of equipment every week. They will develop their skills using the floor, beam, uneven bars, trampoline, pommel horse, tumble track, inclines, octagons, wedges, and the vault.
Ages 2 - 2 1/2 - This fun-filled class is a combination class that introduces students to dance and gymnastics. It includes colorful props and equipment, parachute fun and games. The class is 30 minutes, and extended to 45 minutes after Christmas.
Beginners - Students will learn basic skills including front, back and straddle rolls, cartwheels and increased arm strength. They also learn proper turns.
Primary - These classes teach skills including round-offs, backbends, headstands, handstands and improve their techniques.
Intermediate and advanced - As their skills improve, students apply what they learn while using equipment. Techniques practiced on the mat will be practiced on the balance beam. Students also learn muscle control, springs and basic tumbling.
Note: Each child is different in their skill and ability. Students are placed in a class that the instructors feel will benefit them the most according to their age and ability level. This sometimes prevents friends from being in the same class.
Performances and recitals
Our students gain confidence and self-esteem by seeing their hard work pay off in performances and recitals. Performance also helps them to develop poise, confidence, and stage presence. During our annual Christmas Show, friends and family are invited to view their child's accomplishments. Our recital and gym meet take place at the end of the year. Other performances may be added during the year.
Students will have the opportunity to take part in performances beyond our annual recitals. We will keep you informed about performances in parades, festivals and more. Be sure to see our bulletin board for new events.
The goal of Ms. Patricia's School of Dance and Gymnastics is not to produce prima ballerinas or gold medal gymnasts, but to help your child develop his/her skills, talents, coordination, confidence and make learning fun and exciting.
A wonderful thing happens when young people attend dance and gym class. The confidence, self-esteem, and attainment of goals through hard work are all productive areas of self-growth, which last a lifetime.
